Born on 3 May 1963 in Elmhurst, Illinois USA, Jeffrey John Hornacek is a former professional basketball player and the current head coach of the New York Knicks. He is best known for his time as a shooting guard for the Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Hornacek attended Lyons Township High School in La Grange, Cook County, Illinois and then went on to play for the Iowa State University basketball team, the Cyclones, from 1982 to 1986. He made a name for himself as an all-conference player in the Big Eight Conference, leading the team to the Sweet Sixteen of the 1986 NCAA tournament.
Selected as the 46th overall pick by the Phoenix Suns in the 1986 NBA Draft, he spent six seasons with the team, contributing to their appearances in four consecutive NBA playoffs, including two Western Conference Finals. His best season came in 1991–92 when he led the team in scoring, averaging 20.1 ppg and becoming an NBA All-Star.
He also played as a point guard for the Philadelphia 76ers for a season before being traded to the Utah Jazz. During his tenure with the Jazz, Hornacek achieved multiple NBA records and helped the team reach the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998.
Following his retirement from professional basketball in 2000 due to knee problems, Hornacek pursued a coaching career. He served as a special assistant coach for the Jazz during the 2007–08 season and later became the head coach for the Phoenix Suns. In 2016, he took on the role of head coach for the New York Knicks.
